You Are...

Many faithful Believers - busy moms, hard-working dads, singles trying to make a living, the elderly and retired – wonder if they’re having an impact for the Lord in their daily routines. But consider these words of Jesus…

“YOU ARE the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13). This is a huge statement. Salt is so vital to our daily diet that without it we die. It’s also necessary for flavor and restrains decay. By carrying words of ‘grace and truth’ from Christ in our daily conversations, we are spiritual salt on this earth… “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer everyone” (Colossians 4:6).

“YOU ARE the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). That’s another huge statement. Jesus described the influence of His people in this present darkness as… a lit-up City of Refuge on a hill, warm candlelight of His love in our homes, a Menorah of hope in our communities, and bright stars turning many to righteousness.

“I am the Vine, YOU ARE the branches” (John 15:1). Vines grow grapes, and grapes produce wine. We all know only Jesus produces the best joys. His fruits of “love, joy, peace, slowness to wrath, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control” are not found on this earth naturally. But Jesus said as we abide in Him, and His words abide in us, we become bearers of His fruit. Proverbs says this makes us a “tree of life” blessing others and winning souls.

Think how many children have trusted Christ because their parents were salt, light, and branches at home! Others see it in the workplace where most Christians don’t even realize they’re being observed. God has promised to establish those who love Him “in every good word and work.” Never doubt it.
