The Passover lamb could have no defects in appearance or character. It had to be examined for 3 days to detect any possible flaws… “Your lamb shall be without blemish…” (Exodus 12:5).
Jesus was tested for 3 years as well as the last three days before the Cross. Scripture is filled with His perfections… “Who did no sin… Who was without sin… In Him is no sin (nature)… Who is holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners… Who without spot offered Himself.” Even Pilate said, “I find no fault in this man.”
Only a Spotless Lamb could bear the sins of others… “You know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain lifestyles received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot: who truly was foreordained (as the Lamb) before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.” (1 Peter 1:18-20).
And the wonder of salvation is that Christ’s perfections are imputed to those who repent and receive Him as Lord, to make a redeemed Bride… “not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:27).
Do we grasp the greatness of our standing in Christ? Jesus didn’t die to cleanse us spotless white, then leave us without power to live this new life. The gift of His Holy Spirit, bestowed at the moment of salvation, makes this possible through our daily time in God’s Word… “We, beholding as in a mirror (our Bibles) the glory of the Lord, are metamorphosized into the same image from glory to glory, by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
