When Jesus stands up to judge the earth, He will subdue all nations… “Surely the wrath of man shall praise You: the remainder of wrath You will restrain. Vow and pay to the LORD your God: let all who are round about Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.” (Psalm 76:11).
Bringing presents is a way of paying homage. The enemy nations will submit to Him “with pieces of silver” (Psalm 68:30), bending the knee (Isaiah 45:23), and a kiss (Psalm 2:12). But the nations, and individuals who love Him, will rejoice to bow before Him.
The Wise Men knew exactly what they were doing… “Where is He who is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east and have come to worship Him… and when they had come into the house… they fell down and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented to Him gifts: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:2,11).
These men gave themselves first to the Lord, then their treasures. This is the same order for our service and giving (2 Corinthians 8:5). Loving homage is the heart of worship, and we need not wait until He returns to bring it. Everything done for Him is laying up treasures in Heaven – at His feet – where moth and rust can’t corrupt, and where thieves can’t break through and steal (Matthew 6:20).
How marvelous that every act (eating, drinking), or things we consider mundane necessities, can be transformed and exalted into gifts for our King by cheerfully doing them for Him… “Whatsoever you do in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him… whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Colossians 3:17,23).
What can we bring Him today?
