“Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool” (Isaiah 1:18).
The first snowfall of the year is the most beautiful. This is the picture the Lord gives us of His cleansing power in our lives – no matter how deep the stains of sin have been.
“Scarlet” means “double-dyed,” a permanently-fixed stain. “Crimson” is the word “Tola,” referring to the tiny worms which were crushed to produce a deep red dye. There was no known agent to remove these stains. In the same way, there is nothing that can remove sin-stains from our hearts and consciences but the precious blood of Jesus… “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7b).
Cleansing is very different from just covering over. Cleansing removes and purifies. His promise is this: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). To look closely at each individual snowflake is to see an amazing creation. Each is a pure, perfectly designed crystal. No two are alike. But put them together and they are like a blanket of whitest wool.
To “reason together” is an act of grace. Jesus came first to cleanse our hearts from sin, but at His return He will cleanse the world of it… “For by fire and by His sword will the Lord plead with all flesh” cleansing all bloodshed, injustice, and evil from this earth. That day is very near.
The Bible gives this beautiful assurance to those cleansed by Christ's blood today, and a warning to those who have trampled it… “Jesus, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God, now awaiting the time His enemies shall be made His footstool. For by one offering He has PERFECTED FOREVER those who are sanctified (set apart from this world – and the judgment coming upon it - by faith in Him)” - (Hebrews 10:12-14).
Maranatha.
