What Is The Truth?

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

“Jesus said (to Pilate), ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now My kingdom is from another place.’  ‘You are a king then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world was to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.’ ‘What is truth?’ retorted Pilate” … (John 18:36-38).

Before Jesus went to be crucified, He stated with complete clarity…  “I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life, no man comes unto the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Yet, the world’s philosophers and educators today are no different than Pilate, claiming there is no such thing as absolute truth. “You have your truth and I have my truth, and there is no absolute truth as it’s always different for each person.” This is a lie from hell. Truth lives in its complete fullness in Christ.

Just as Pilate looked directly into the eyes of Truth - the Maker of Heaven and earth, and said, “What is truth?” so are millions of people today that deliberately choose to keep truth distant and untouchable, thus keeping them “supposedly” unaccountable. This is a dangerous game to play, as all of us will stand before God, face to face, and give an account of our lives.

Truth isn’t a concept to be toyed with, but Christ, Himself. And on His enduring Truth we stand secure.
