What If...

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

What if we knew the Lord was coming in two months? Would we do anything different? Would we be more bold for truth at the cost of risking offending someone that we know is headed to hell?

What if we truly grasped the biblical concept that we are eternal, immortal beings, made in the image of God (who is eternal). Would we live with more freedom to reach the lost at any cost? Missionaries understand this well and it has untethered them from the “god of modern comforts,” and sent them to the furthest parts of the world with the Good News. Praise God they get it!

What would our inner voice sound like if we completely understood that we are forgiven by God and loved beyond measure? Would we tolerate the whispers of Satan that tell us we are never good enough? Or that we can never be a useful vessel for God’s glory? We NEED to fully grasp the work done at the cross in our place. It should free us!

What if we kept at the forefront of our minds, each day as we work in this fallen world, that Heaven awaits us, with mansions made of jewels, fashioned with each one of us in mind. Do we have spiritual amnesia? Have we forgotten that God has gone to “prepare a place for us?” This should put a song in our hearts. Friends, we are just passing through!

These spiritual truths are more “real” than this life we live, and they should continually fill our spiritual gas tanks and keep us going. What if we grasp these truths and we live differently, with more joy, more peace, more love, and more boldness? Oh, the power of knowing His Word! It gives us freedom and life!
