We Have Seen His Glory

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

“So The Word became flesh (human) and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” (John 1:14)

What glory have we seen, the doubter asks? The glory that God could wrap Himself in human flesh and come to His own creation.

The glory that He would leave the splendor of Heaven to “Come unto His own knowing His own would receive Him not,” and nail Him to a cross.

The glory of Him showing us His love, even when we were at enmity (complete opposition) with Him. He loved the unlovable… The glory of His willingness to become the Lamb of God, to die for our sins. This death was ours to pay, but in love He paid the price for our salvation.

The glory that through His own obedience to His Father, He has opened the gates of heaven for all who believe in His name. (John 1:12-13)

The glory that because He came, sin no longer is our master; the grave can no longer hold us in hopelessness, and death no longer preys upon our minds, but is merely a passing from this life to eternal life. His glory shines hope, light, and love to a dying world, as He bids us all to “Choose life, that we and our children may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

This is His glory! Even the stars declare it, and the stones want to shout it. May we join with the angels as they declare, “Glory to God in the highest heavens!”
