In the Old Testament we are given an inside peek into God the Father speaking of His Son… “Here is My Servant Whom I uphold, My Chosen One in Whom I delight; I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will bring justice to the nations… I will keep You and will make You to be a Covenant for the people and a Light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison, and to release from the dungeon those that sit in darkness” (Isaiah 42:1-7).
God the Father made it clear we will not have to wonder who His Son is. He gave us signs to look for…
1. “I will put my Spirit on Him.” In Matthew 3:16, The Spirit of God descended on Him like a dove.”
2. “He will heal the blind.” No where in the Old Testament are the blind healed. This particular miracle was reserved as a sign given to the Messiah, and He healed the blind repeatedly (John 9, Mark 8, Mark 10, Matthew 12, Matthew 20…).
3. “He will free captives from prison.” This miraculous sign freed Paul and Silas from prison (Act 16:26). The doors were opened, and their chains loosened. Everyone heard about it and even some of their guards came to faith in Jesus.
4. “He will release those that are in the dungeon of darkness.” These miracles released men under demonic power. In Mark 5:5, we read of a man living in the graveyard that was demon possessed. He was calling out and cutting himself with stones. No one was able to bind him, even with a chain. Jesus commanded the evil spirit to “Come out and leave him at once!” The demons replied that their names were “Legion” meaning many, for many evil spirits possessed him. Jesus cast them out, freeing this man from the “dungeon of darkness.” This was a sign! This Miracle Worker is The Messiah.
Friends, God has always wanted us informed. He wants us to be able to look at our day, run it through the filter of Scripture, and know where we are in His timeline.
Remember His words… “There will be SIGNS in the sun, moon, and stars. In the earth nations will be in anguish and perplexed as the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming in the world, for the heavens will be shaken… When you see these things BEGIN to happen LOOK UP for your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:25-28)
Friends, be encouraged! Signs of His soon return are everywhere! Not long now! Keep looking up!
