When we read the Bible we soon realize that we are all very much alike. It doesn’t seem to matter that centuries have passed between us and technology has created a new world. We are all the same in that we were created to KNOW our God, our Creator, our Redeemer and Friend.
And… we are hard wired the same way - for purpose and meaning in life. It’s not enough to have our physical needs met if we don’t feel like we’re living for a purpose bigger than ourselves. This is God’s design, that we would hunger for His ways and purposes, and join Him in His work.
Likewise, we were made to be children of Hope. Where there is Hope there is a vision for the future, not just in Heaven, but here! A hope filled people have joy, as they know from the Word of God that better days lie ahead. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Look around you… our world is straining to find Hope in all the wrong places - a new political leader, a new haircut, a better, more fit body, a new purchase… but it all fails to satisfy because it is not true Hope.
True Hope is only found in Christ and His purposes. “For You are my Hope, my Lord God: You are my trust from my youth” (Psalm 71:5). A discouraged David once said to the Lord, “What is there to trust in here?! And what am I waiting for here?! My hope is in You alone” (Psalm 39:7).
Dear friends, as we await our Lord, let us be people of Hope. People that KNOW that this time is full of purpose in bringing many to Christ, and maturing many others in their walk. Rest in the knowledge that we are called to be Salt and Light in a dying world - that’s a purpose that reaches into eternity. And have joy, that no pain is for nothing, and no waiting is in vain… God knows what He’s doing and we must trust His timeline.
If people without vision perish, then a people WITH a godly vision thrive. Make sure your vision is fixed on Him.
