Victory Is Sure

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

Victory is a mindset long before it is a reality. Psychologists work with Olympic athletes teaching them to “see the victory” in their minds long before the day they actually compete. The Lord has done this for us all along.

The Lord gave us three examples of this pre-victory mindset - a soldier, an athlete, a gardener. None of these people begin their endeavors expecting to fail. They keep their eyes on the prize. Likewise, this is our mindset as Believers… “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

Since being with Jesus is our Prize, our mindset of victory as we go through this life should emulate His… “He shall not fail nor be discouraged until He has set justice in the earth” (Isaiah 42:3).

The night before His crucifixion, Jesus spoke words of victory to His disciples… “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome (gained the victory over) the world” (John 14:27). His resurrection proved it.

The disciples could have spent the days from Friday to Sunday to morning in anticipation and victory if Jesus’ words had sunk down into their hearts. And this is also true for us. Victory over this evil world is not some vague hope – if all goes well – maybe. Victory is sure.

May our lives and words shatter the darkness around us with this truth: “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
