The Incarnation becomes even more marvelous when considered from the Father’s heart. Three times He spoke from Heaven saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” But this statement was more than an announcement of approval. Greek scholars tell us that embedded in the word “well-pleased” is both the intention and “good-pleasure” of sharing.
It was no grudging gift of necessity when “The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.” It was His “good-pleasure” to share the gift of Life in Christ. For in Him, all other joys and eternal blessings unfold. Just as you delight in giving the perfect gift to someone you love, the joy was first from Heaven when the angel’s message split the skies… “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
And suddenly, as if one angel alone was insufficient to share such news, “There was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good-will toward (lit: among) men.'” God’s “GOOD-PLEASURE” toward earth was wrapped in flannel in Bethlehem.
Our Heavenly Father delights to save because He loves. In His great love for us He delighted to give us His eternal Son, from whom all other blessings flow (Ephesians 1:3). In giving us Christ, He gave us everything.
Years later, the Apostles used the same language as the angels to preach the Gospel of Christ to the nations... "For there is no other name under Heaven 'given among men' whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
No gift can be enjoyed unless it’s received and opened. The Bible says… “To as many as receive Him (Christ), to them He gave the right to become the children of God” (John 1:12).
How wonderful to become the sons and daughters of the Living God!
