We were told about days like this, where ideologies would divide family and friends. This “divide and conquer” strategy is one of Satan’s best strategies to break down the family and society. Are we to seek unity with ALL people?
The Bible gives us clear instructions that our unity is first and foremost with God. “For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we will also certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His” (Romans 6:5). To be united in Christ is an eternal bond that holds priority over any earthly relationship.
Next, is our unity in the family of God… “For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus… there is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, for you are all one in Christ” (Galatians 3:26-28).
What about our unsaved friends and family members? We are told to “love our neighbor as ourselves,” but we are not called to unity with them, “for what fellowship can light have with darkness?” “Live in harmony with one another… do not be proud or conceited.” And, “With all that is in you, if it be possible, live peacefully with all men” (Romans 12:16, 18).
Friends, even Jesus loved, nurtured and healed everywhere He went, but He was still slandered and crucified. May we have wisdom to know how to love the lost, but KNOW that our family is in Christ, and our identity and Home will never be here.
