“And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the exact same day (lit: bone of the day) it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be diligently observed (celebrated) to the LORD for bringing them out…” (Exodus 12:41,42).
Why is the Bible so specific about the exact time of the Exodus? Because God made a promise to Abraham 400-years earlier… “Know of a surety that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; and also that nation, whom they shall serve, I will judge: and afterward they shall come out with great substance” (Genesis 15:13,14).
The Bible refers to this promise from God as a “bone,” for with the Passover Lamb there went a command, “A bone of it shall not be broken” (Exodus 12:46). When Jesus died, the Bible says the soldiers did not break the legs of Jesus… “For these things were done, that the Scripture should be fulfilled, ‘A bone of Him shall not be broken’ (John 19:36).
Why is this important? Because Jesus is the Living Word who is revealed in the Written Word, and not one word of Scripture can be broken (John 10:35). Abram had entered Canaan land on Nisan 15, exactly 430 years to the date of the Exodus. The 400 years of mistreatment began with Ishmaels persecution of Isaac, at five years old, and continued through the Egyptian slavery.
Doesn’t it thrill your heart that God’s promises to us through His Passover Lamb are unbreakable “bones” of truth? Hallelujah! He will just as surely come on time to lead us Home.
