Trusting God

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Living in a world full of strife, fighting, wars, division, betrayal, murder, and purposed confusion, we find ourselves numb and despondent at times. Are we too inundated with the constant pain of this world to see that God is still doing great things? Sometimes, we need to take ten steps back to see exactly what’s going on. None of this world’s evil is random, but all part of the “beginning of labor pains,” marking these end of days. (Matthew 24:8)

These trying times could break us if we are not clinging to the Lord. Pastor Chuck Smith used to like to say, “Never trade what you know, for what you don’t know.” This is so wise! We KNOW that God is still on the throne, and that no evil takes Him by surprise. We KNOW that in the end, trials would come, and they would increase in intensity; He told us so, to prepare us, not scare us. We KNOW that those that die in the Lord are SAFE. They can no longer be hurt by this world, or sin, but are perfectly whole, awaiting us in Heaven. We KNOW He is coming again.

We can get discouraged and forget that God has died for us and given us eternal life. CS Lewis put it well…”Our desires here are not too strong, but too weak. We act like children content to make mud pies in the slums, because we cannot imagine what is meant by a holiday at the sea.” Do we really understand that great and glorious things lie ahead?

This earth and all its sorrows will soon pass away, and what will be remaining? The goodness of God and all His plans for our eternity. “No eye has seen, and no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” “For in the ages to come, He will show us the eternal riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” (1 Corinthians 2:9), (Ephesians 2:7)

Dear ones, while time remains, may we encourage everyone to trust in God-everything else is sinking sand! There is only One true stability - Him!

He is our Solid Rock. May we fully trust Him with the future.
