Trust And Work

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

A small village decided to build a chapel where they could worship the Lord. The local witchdoctor was furious and hired local thugs to tear down the work each night. They even threatened the builders with violence.

As the Believers prayed, God advised them through His Word… “Do not let yourselves become enraged because of evildoers, neither be envious at these WORKERS of lawlessness. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord and WORK good and you shall dwell in the land… commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall WORK” (Psalm 37:1-5).

The people continued, trusting, working, building, and praying, and the little chapel was finished and still stands today, in use for God’s glory.  Jesus said the Church (people who have answered the call to follow Christ, not a building) is His “building project,” and we are “workers together” with Him, not the other way around.  He is the Architect and Master Builder, and His declaration of victory never gets old: “I will build My Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.” Completion is guaranteed.

God gives us another promise in Psalm 37… “When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.” It’s a righteous thing with God that those who endure evil days shall have the reward of seeing His justice. In Revelation, after the completed Church is safely gathered to Heaven at the Rapture, Jesus opens the seals which begin His “four sore judgments” upon this corrupt world. And just before it all starts, a voice of thunder reverberates through Heaven’s throne room, saying… “Come and See.”

Until then, let’s trust and work. For our eyes shall see His Kingdom come.
