True Safety

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“There is no king saved by the multitude of an army: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. A horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver by his great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who reverence Him, upon those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord: He (and He alone) is our Help and our Shield.” – (Psalm 33:16-20).

The Lord has always been the only true Source of safety. Every great victory of deliverance is by His help and power. Samson slew 1000 terrorists with the jawbone of a donkey and praised the Lord for such “great salvation.” David slew Goliath and the nations praised the Lord for working a “great salvation” for all Israel. Three of king David’s mighty men stood alone against hundreds of enemies and the Lord worked a “great salvation” through each of them.

The Bible and history are filled with the accounts of those who learned the secret of true safety… “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of those whose hearts are perfect toward Him (2 Chronicles 16:9a).

Our nations are rushing toward WW3 and great judgment, but our trust is in the One who worked “so great salvation” at the Cross. The promise of His Victory is not over, for… "The wicked shall be cut off, but the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: He (and He alone) is their strength in time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and rescue them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him” (Psalm 37:38-40).
