Triumphant

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

“Then I saw Heaven open and behold, a white horse! The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many crowns… On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Revelation 19:11,12,16)

Before this victorious scene of our King riding in victory, came the tragedy and horror of the cross, followed by His death, witnessed by so many that loved Him, and culminating with His body, wrapped in death linens, lying in a borrowed grave. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick,” and rightfully so, the disciples were distraught.

All their hopes had dissolved into a numb despondency… now what? “Who else should we go to Lord? For You alone have the words of life.” There was no other. There IS no other. ALL Hope hinges on Him.

Friends, our lives are inundated with the evils of our day - a steady, nauseous diet of maliciousness, coupled with an iron grip of control, intent on destroying everyone’s lives. This mental nightmare needs to be put in its appropriate place because there is One that is still fully in control that we can rest in.

Our entire Hope can confidently rest in the fact that He only allows sin to go so far, before He steps in. Sin appeared to be pointless in Jesus’ time, too, nailing Him to the cross, but through it, He conquered death, and rose on the third day, triumphant! It ALL had a purpose.

These present trials are the foretold “birth pangs” prior to Jesus’ return. They are painful and draining to endure, but dear ones, it’s only for a time, AND for a purpose. It is dividing the wheat from the tares, exposing the fake from the real. And when it’s done? Our Savior is coming! And when He comes, the trials of this life will be no more. We will rule and reign with Him in the ages to come.

He asked us all a poignant question… “When He comes will He find faith on the earth?” I pray that He doesn’t find us doubting His promises, or shaken to our core by the evil, but finds us bold, brave, courageous, walking confidently in His promises as HIS children, heads high, speaking Truth in a sea of lies, and declaring that victory will be reserved for the KING OF KINGS and those who “love His appearing.”
