“But with all else you do, prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given to you” (Philemon 1:22).
Paul believed the prayers of the Believers would open his prison door… “For I know that this shall turn to my salvation (release) through your prayers.” And he was right.
It is fitting that the man who prayed for the Churches of God, perhaps more than anyone, should also ask for prayer… “Pray that God would open a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains” (Colossians 4:3).
Jesus gave us the greatest example of prayer. Amazingly, the last prayer He prayed was from the Cross, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” This prayer was answered, and a door of grace was opened to the world. Through the prayers of His people, doors have opened to the Gospel across the world, and still do.
While the world works to close every possible door to the Christian, God’s promise to us is that “The Word of God is not bound.” It’s exciting to consider what doors God will open today as we pray.
The last prayer the Church will pray, will open the door of Heaven bringing the return of Christ. This final prayer, found in the last chapter of the last Book of the Bible, is the Spirit and the Bride simply praying, “Come.”
If the Church is not praying for open doors for the Gospel, for release of God’s people from prisons, for the will of God, and for the return of Christ, it is a false church.
It is “through your prayers” that God is pleased to work and has promised us that He will work. Isn’t it exciting to consider? Don’t let busyness or distractions keep you from this vital ministry. Pray. It is an act of love.
