Pick any hero of the Faith, from the Old Testament to the New, and you will find their testimony is “God brought me through.” Through the Red Sea, for Israel, and through the wilderness. Through the Jordan River and times of war. Through captivity and the fiery furnace. God brought them through to bring them into a place of blessing and peace.
When Paul and Barnabas finished their first missionary journey, they gathered their home Church together and “rehearsed all that God had done with them” (Acts 14:27). When Jesus returns and we have movie nights in Heaven, we’ll take turns rehearsing all God did for us, with us, and through us. Our testimony will be, “He brought me through”- trials, tribulations, betrayals, slander, loneliness, sickness, death, broken hearts, and tear-stained night seasons, and everything the devil threw our way – to bring us in. Home safe at last.
All God’s people can claim His promise of love… “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you. For I am the Lord your God…” – (Isaiah 43:2).
Doesn’t it rejoice our hearts to know Jesus has already made preparation for bringing us through the wilderness of this life? “Yea, though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod and staff comfort me. You have PREPARED a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; my cup RUNNETH-OVER. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell…
In the House of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:4,6).
