These Are The Days Of Elijah

Writer: Lisa CatafordLisa Cataford

We all love to sing this song in church! The courage of this prophet of God in the face of evil and violent days is truly inspiring! He confronted the pagan priests of Baal, even challenging them to a showdown on Mt. Carmel. This boldness and fearlessness was needed so desperately, as the days were dark and evil. If he didn’t speak Truth, who would? He was God’s appointed man for the hour.

But the evil leader of the day (Jezebel), took note of his power from God and called for his death. Did she really think that death could stop the work of God? Do our leaders today believe the same? They truly do! But what they haven’t factored into their thinking is that even though these are “Days of great trials, of famine, darkness and sword,” “Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ… Not hardship or persecution or famine, nakedness, danger or sword” (Romans 8:35). Nothing!

Where the love of God is, the deliverance of God is, just ask Enoch, Noah, Moses, Jonah, Esther, or Daniel. As for Elijah, while “He walked with Elisha, a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared from Heaven and took him away in a whirlwind” (2 Kings 2:11). His earthly obedience was rewarded with an Escort Home - without death!

If this sounds familiar, it is…  “Behold He comes, riding on the clouds and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him…” and “We will not all die, but will be changed, in the twinkling of an eye, at the trumpet’s call. For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed!” (Revelation 1:7, 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52).

So lift your voice, it’s the year of Jubilee, and out of Zion’s Hill Salvation comes. “Even so, come Lord Jesus!”
