“Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord (the Bible), and in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1).
There is no other Book, in all the world, that assures us how much we are loved by the God who made us. In contrast to the Bible, the world offers all types of counsel to follow “your truth.” They have a road where sin isn’t called sin, but rather “doing you,” and “following your heart.” They have a comfy seat of fellowship for those who mock the realities of God, love toward us at the Cross, and His promise to return and judge the world in righteousness.
Jesus spoke of two roads in life. He said, “Wide is the gate, and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many there are who go that way; because narrow is the gate, and afflicted is the road that leads to life, and few there are who find it” (Matthew 7:13,14).
To follow the Lord’s ways over the ways of the world may seem “narrow” to some, but notice the different endings in Psalm 1. Those following Christ are… “like a tree, transplanted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the Judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
Notice also the word “transplanted.” Jesus invites all people to find forgiveness and eternal life in Him. It’s a call to change roads. He will save from sin and death all who place their faith in Him, instantly transferring them from the road of death to the road of life.
There is an end to all choices. May we find opportunities each day to share the Only Road that leads to life.
