Psalm 22 is a prophetic Psalm of Jesus’ suffering on the Cross. It was written by King David who lived about 1000 years before Christ. Being a prophet, David wrote in detail the events of Jesus’ crucifixion… “they laugh me to scorn… they shake their head, saying, ‘He trusted on the Lord that He would deliver him: let Him deliver him’… they pierced my hands and my feet… they part my garments among them.”
Isaiah was a prophet who lived about 800 years before Jesus. He also detailed Jesus’ death… “He was marred more than any human… He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the punishment that bought our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed… He was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before his shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.”
It is fulfilled prophecy that sets the Bible apart from any other book on earth. And Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 don’t end with Jesus’ death: they end with His resurrection and an invitation to seek Him… “They shall praise the Lord who seek Him: your heart shall live forever. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord.”
Eternal life is offered as a gift, by faith, to all who acknowledge their sins and receive Christ as Lord through prayer. Faith makes God’s offer both available and fair to everyone.
And for all the evils that plague our world, we have this promise… “He has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness, by that Man whom He has pointed out, having furnished proof to everyone, in that He raised Him from the dead.”
Jesus lives. Happy Easter.
