God knew we would need hope to reach for, just as the flower reaches for the sun, so He gave us His word full of promises and prophecy. For those that live in a state of continual spiritual anticipation, their hearts have a strength that enables them to endure seasons of waiting because they see the final destination.
The saints of old endured because they believed the promises of God, that a deliverer (Moses) would come, that a new king would rise up (Kind David), that a Savior (Jesus) of the world would be born, etc., and they persevered in holy strength past their present trials.
Do we see past the turmoil of our world to the promise of a new heavens and new earth where Righteousness reigns? Do we hear the footsteps of our Lord as His coming draws near? Do the promises of God ring louder in our hearts than the daily news? If so, holy anticipation has filled us with hope and strength!
Although the apostle Paul was often severely persecuted for sharing the gospel, he states, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us” (Romans 8:18). Anticipation of ALL God’s coming goodness kept him charging full-steam ahead with the truth of the gospel, changing the world, forever.
If your heart groans at the state of this sinful world, look past it to the promises of God, and then live in joyful anticipation, because soon our faith is going to give way to sight, and our waiting will be no more!
Hallelujah!
