“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy; love does not boast of self, is not puffed up, does not behave indecently, seeks not her own interests, is not easily provoked, does not keep an inventory of wrongs; does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears up under all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…” (1 Corinthians 10:4-8).
Love is much like diamonds; it has facets of beauty. Diamond specialists tell us that the “Radiant Diamond” has the most facets, and greatest brilliancy, of any diamond form. They tell us that “facets” are windows that allow us to look inside the diamond, while allowing the light to refract out.
“Radiant” is exactly the word the Bible uses to describe the love of God toward us in Christ… “But God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light (radiancy) of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).
Jesus displayed these perfect attributes of love as He walked towards the Cross to save us from our sins… “By this we KNOW the love of God because He laid down His life for us.” And the proof of salvation is for us to refract the same… “We KNOW that we have passed from death into life because we love our fellowman. The one who does not love his fellowman abides in death” (1 John 3:14,16).
Don’t believe the world’s definitions of love – they are corrupt counterfeits. These facets of God’s love set the standard forever. May you “know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,” and may you “walk in love, as Christ also has loved us,” until the Trumpet sounds.
