The Root Determines The Fruit

“A person shall not be established by wickedness: and the Root of the righteous shall not be moved” - (Proverbs 12:3).

What a warning to the wicked; all their best-laid schemes are going to end in futility! What a comfort to the Christian; all the evils plotted against us won’t move God off course from the good He has in store. Our future is unshakeable.

Jesus is the “Root” of the righteous because He’s the One who make us righteous. The root always determines the fruit. Isaiah called Him, “the Root out of dry ground” because He appeared when Israel was under Roman rule, and everything seemed hopeless, barren, and fruitless. But He came, right on time, bringing life, fruitfulness, and eternal security to all who receive Him as Lord. Now, every heart where He has been invited to dwell has a holy Root, producing righteous fruit… “For if the Root is holy, so are the branches” (Romans 11:16).

The Bible says the wicked also have a root… “The love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). Money itself is not evil, but when people love it so much they are willing to lie, pervert justice, act immorally, and hurt the innocent, it becomes evil. Balaam the false prophet, was willing to curse those who God had blessed, just to fatten his bank account. Judas betrayed Jesus for the pitiful amount of thirty pieces of silver. And today, politicians throw away their integrity, the media willingly publish falsehoods, and medical professionals promote harmful or unnecessary products, all for “kickbacks.”

John the Baptist issued a public warning that God is a “fruit and root” Inspector… “Bring forth fruits worthy of repentance… for even now, the axe is laid to the root of the trees: every tree not bringing forth good fruit shall be hewn down and cast into the fire” (Matthew 3:8,10). Yet he also offered hope that even the most corrupt roots can be transformed by repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ, before it’s too late.

May it bless your heart today to remember God’s plans are right on time and your future in His hands is perfectly secure.
