The Restraining Power Of Prayer

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Looking at our world, it’s hard to believe that the rampant corruption, lies, and violence, is all in a restrained mode right now, but it is…

“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only He who now restrains it will do so until He is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth, and shall destroy with the appearance of His coming.” (2 Thessalonians 2:7,8)

Like an angry bull behind a rodeo gate, Satan and his demonic realm are being restrained from rampaging the earth. But make no mistake, this won’t last! The second the church, and the Spirit of God that restrains evil, are lifted away in the rapture, the gate is opened. Horrors await a world that refused God. But God tried to warn them… His patience has endured for two millennia, but this time will come to a close.

Until then, let’s us “pray without ceasing,” for in prayer we can be “joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12). Even Jesus’ prayers for His own restrained evil…  “My prayer is not that You take them out of the world, but that You protect them from the evil one.” (John 17:15)

Friends, this is a time to pray like we’ve never prayed before. As this world grows more evil, souls are seeking and coming to Christ. The spiritual warfare is intensifying and we must pray, pray, pray! One day soon our prayers will be replaced with seeing Him face to face. No more separation, no more long nights with heavy prayerful hearts, but just pure unhindered, sweet fellowship. That day is coming, dear ones. But until then, may we be faithful in prayer.
