The Promise of Strength

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

When the Lord showed Daniel the trials that would come upon His people before He ushers in His Kingdom, Daniel wrote: “there remained no strength in me.” The Lord sent His messenger Gabriel with a message… “O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand up.” When Daniel heard this message, he stood up trembling. But there was more… “O man greatly beloved, do not fear: peace to you, be strong, yes, be strong.” And Daniel recorded, “when he had spoken to me, I was strengthened” (Daniel 10:19).

How desperately we need the strength that only the Word of God brings to us in these days. The flood of evil around us, along with our own daily trials, feels oppressive. But those grafted to Christ through salvation have His promise of infused strength, through His Word daily, putting us back on our feet…

“He gives power to the faint and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31).

Jesus knows exactly what our hearts need, and He loves to “speak a word in season to those who are weary.” He’s ready to refresh, restore, and infuse us with “His glorious strength,” but we must feed daily on His Word and spend time in prayer, receiving all He desires to give. He assures us… “You are greatly loved… As thy days, so shall thy strength be … The Lord will perfect that which concerns you … I am with you.”
