“Blessed is the one who does not WALK in step with the wicked, or STAND in the way of sinners, nor SITS in the seat of mockers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and he meditates on it day and night.” (Psalm 1:1, 2)
Sin is never static; its pattern is one of progression. Consider our culture today, and how sin (once thought to be reprehensible) is now applauded and endorsed. God told us that this very progression from walking amongst sin, then stopping to stand among it, then to fully sitting in it and joining in, would be a sign of His soon return… “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. It was the same in the days of Lot… but the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be JUST LIKE THIS on the day the Son of Man is revealed.” (Luke 17: 26-30)
God also gives us a righteous progression to strive for… “Follow God’s example and WALK in the way of love…” (Ephesians 5:1). “Put on the full armor of God that you can STAND against the Devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). “And God raised us up with Christ and SEATED us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)
We are all either progressing in our Christian walk, or succumbing to the sin that drags us down. How wonderful to know that in Christ we are to walk out our lives each day in love, while standing in full armor against the lies of the devil, knowing that we are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies, (as He sees our work as already complete), and in Him, we are triumphant, victorious over-comers. Now that’s progress, God’s way!
