Living on a cattle ranch can be noisy. When the calves are about 6 months old (nearly as big as their mommas), they are weaned. The calves are put in a corral away from their mommas and they are introduced to fresh green hay. But until they taste the sweet hay, they cry for their moms and the moms call for them right back. They can see each other… but they don’t know that the hay is so much more satisfying because they long for what they know.
Friends, we are all in a process of being weaned from this world. We see our great countries crumbling to a mere shadow of what they once were. Our hearts cry… We long for the days where justice could be counted on for severe crimes… now they walk free and laugh at the lack of accountability… eager to offend again… our souls grieve.
God is gently lifting our chins to Heaven. There is a Place where righteousness dwells and sin is no more. We need to taste of it and realize how completely satisfying it is. When we do, our hearts will no longer hunger for the fruits of this world but will long, desperately long, for the Bread of Heaven - Jesus.
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants longingly for You, O God” (Psalm 42:1). “And besides You (God), I desire no one else on earth. Whom have I in Heaven but You? And there is nothing else on earth I desire besides You.” (Psalm 73:25)
With each pang of pain and every heartache, may we look ahead to a day when our joy and our peace will be FULL! (Psalm 16:11). Our health will be fully restored as we are given new glorified bodies that will never grow weary or sick (1 Corinthians 15:49). We will no longer go from trial to trial but from glory to more glory, as He “shows us the riches of His exceeding kindness to us for the ages to come.” (Ephesians 2:7)
Dear one’s, things aren’t ending as our weaning hearts tell us they are, they are turning our hearts towards Home. If you’re Homesick, it’s not much longer. Keep looking up.
