“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26)
Do you find it hard to know what to pray these days? Is the information we’re receiving accurate? Are our facts skewed by deceptive media? Isn’t it wonderful to know that we don’t have to know all the answers to come before the Lord in prayer? He knows. And His Spirit will take the weight of our hearts, the tears no one sees, and turn them into meaningful prayers before the Father. This is perhaps the sweetest form of intercession He’s given us.
There’s such peace is knowing that God knows our hearts because sometimes we pray amiss. Mary and Martha were heart broken that Jesus didn’t come when they wanted Him to - “If You had come Lazarus wouldn’t have died.” Don’t we feel the same way now? If Jesus would just come, all this pain and heartache would be stopped. But they only saw the current crisis. Their prayers were one dimensional. Jesus delayed on purpose so that Lazarus could be raised from the dead, bringing many to trust Him as Lord.
Friends, we are told to “come boldly to the Throne of grace” with our petitions. But may we end each prayer as Jesus taught us to - “May Your Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” Jesus, Himself, laid this example before us as He went to the cross - “Father, please take this cup from Me, nevertheless, not My will but Thine be done.”
Imagine if Jesus had never died for our sins, or if Lazarus and his whole village - and even the whole world, never knew of Jesus’ power to save us from death? We can rejoice that within each one of our prayers - is His prayers, perfect in every way. It’s like enveloping our prayers in His perfect peace when we utter… “May Thy Kingdom come, and Thy will be done.” Amen.
