This year, seventy countries in the world are going through elections. People keep commenting that “everything is on the line,” and that “the future is hanging on a thread,” and worldly speaking, our freedoms are disappearing fast. But, let’s look closely at what the Bible has to say about our future.
Matthew 24 lists many end-times trials that will come upon the earth, but in verse 6, He tells us, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it you are NOT ALARMED, for those things must take place, but the end is not yet.” Why does he tell us to not feel troubled? Because, these things are transient, but we are eternal.
“Blessed is the man who REMAINS STEADFAST under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him” (James 1:12). How do we stay stable through chaos? We keep our eyes fixed on Him and we make Him our complete source of Hope.
We need to understand what is NOT on the ballot;
Our Hope - “Praise be to God who has given us a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus.” (1 Peter 1:3)
Our Joy - “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Our Peace - “My peace I give you, not like the world gives. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Our Future - “So that in the ages to come He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:7)
May we rest in the knowledge that our lives and our futures are safe in Christ no matter what our countries do politically. May we pray and vote according to what honors Him the most, but recognize we serve a King that cannot be dethroned and voted out. He is eternally Lord and forever sovereign over all. Isn’t that the most glorious thought!
