“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. she came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to do all the work by my self? Tell her to help me.” “Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only One thing is necessary…” (Luke 10:40-42)
It’s not only Martha that struggles with putting God AFTER all the pressing demands are done - it’s most of the Christian world! There’s always a “next thing” that must be done, now! And another, and before we know it the day is coming to a close and we haven’t filled our hearts and minds with God’s words. This tyranny of the urgent has stolen precious time that IF given to God, first, would completely change how we handle our days.
The challenge was given to a church to give God the first moments of their day and after a month report back as to how, if any, changes were noticed. At the end of the month everyone that participated shared that they had more peace during their hectic days. They were less prone to impatience, and more willing to show grace. They were amazed how the Scripture they read that very morning, was so applicable for the trials that presented that exact day. What if they had skipped time with God? They would’ve been unprepared, and armor-less for that trial.
“Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these (other) things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Friends, may God’s Word guide and enlighten each day afresh, giving you the “One thing” that is necessary - a time to be strengthened and encouraged as you hear from your First Love. What a powerful way to start the day!
