“Enter in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in that way, because narrow is the gate and afflicted is the way, which leads to life, and few there are who find it” (Matthew 7:13,14).
Salvation begins by entering the “Narrow Gate” of Jesus. He is exclusively the “Only Way” to the Father. Apart from Him no one will enter Heaven. The world can cry, ‘Unfair!’ but access to Heaven’s gate is found only in the way of sins forgiven and righteousness supplied by Christ. From the moment of salvation, the Christian is a fish swimming against the current of modern opinions.
While the broad road is an “everybody’s doing it” mentality, the narrow road goes it alone if need be. To the one who is convicted that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, neither dearest family nor best friends can dissuade them from this Path. Their theme song on this road is, “I have decided to follow Jesus… though no one join me, still I will follow.”
The broad road might seem like “easy street” now, but Jesus said it ends in destruction. He should know for He lives outside of time. His eternal view can see the beginning and ending, in the same way we peruse a book.
Every road has an end. The Lord warns: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” But those who have trusted in Christ have this assurance… “He shall confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
What a certain end awaits those who have chosen Jesus.
