The Mountain Top

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord.” (Exodus 34:9)

Time with the Lord still has this effect, but in our minds, hearts and souls. The Light of His Word illuminates our understanding, giving us much needed insight into the troubles of our day. His presence leaves us changed; anxiety gives way to peace, continual striving finds that rest is only found in Him, and our weary souls find that His Living Water refreshes like nothing else.

This “mountain top” experience MUST be with God to enlighten us, not a book by a good author, or a podcast by a respected teacher, but with the Lord Himself. These other things are good supplements, but not the Meal. When we get this wrong, we struggle.

In our day and age of deception, we NEED more of these intimate moments with God, to continually have our Truth compass aligned to His perfect will. Just like Moses, as we commune with Him, the world outside is flailing, worshiping their idols and seeking their identity in culture over God. When we come down off the mountain it’s so easy to feel rage at the rabidness of sin, seeking to destroy even the youngest, and most innocent of souls.

But we come with His mighty Word and we must speak Truth to this evil day. Is it wearying? Yes! But Jesus awaits us to come to Him for refreshing anytime, day or night, and receive His words of Life. May we frequent this Eternal Spring often and find our strength for the day. He is everything we need.
