Years ago we became joint-owners of a flagging business. We took the training, got our certificates, and learned all we could about the business. No matter where we were asked to work, whether a busy highway, or a remote forested area, we learned that the most important meeting of the day was called “The Tailgate Meeting.” There, the ones who hired us would tell us what the project entailed, how long it would be, where to set up, and what they wanted us to do. To miss the Tailgate Meeting, was to miss all the relevant information of the day.
This is the same with our morning devotions. It is your most important event of the day. You’re meeting with your Savior, the King of Heaven, and He’s going to encourage you for the day, strengthen your soul, renew your mind for the long day ahead, fill up your spiritual gas tank, and answer your morning prayers… “O God, You are my God, early (in the morning) will I seek You: my soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see Your power and Your glory (towards me), as I have seen You in the Sanctuary (as I’ve heard of You at Church).” – (Psalm 63:1,2)
The Lord promises that those who seek Him early (lit: at dawn) shall find Him. Whether people seek Him “early” in life, or “early” in the day, those who make their relationship with Him a priority have this promise… “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go, I will guide you with My eye.”– (Psalm 32:8).
Then, when we fall into bed at night, what a joy to thank Him for His help, interventions, kindnesses, and provisions of the day… “Lord, You have made me glad through Your work: I will triumph in the works of Your hands.” – (Psalm 92:4).
