The Message Of Life

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

The streets around us are filled with signs of death. Giant size skeletons are arranged to look as if they are coming out of the graves. Other life size skeletons are attached to houses, looking like they are climbing up the walls and into the windows. Horrible characters look like they are bringing death and hell into the streets.

Halloween, with all its attempts to glorify death, makes me think of the Rapture and the coming Day of the Lord. Jesus said, “The day is coming when all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of Man and shall come forth (John 5:28,29). Imagine what that will look like? Another Scripture tells us that a demonic army shall: “run to and fro in the city, run up the wall, climb upon the houses, and enter in at the windows like a thief” (Joel 2:9). Can you imagine what that will look like?

For us, life is far too precious to joke about the seriousness of sin, death, violence, and hell. So we “redeem the time” by handing out Gospel tracts to those who come to our door. We refuse to buy into the lie that this is Satan’s day and is the most evil day of the year. It’s not true.

The most evil day of history was April 3, 33 AD, when the world crucified the Lord of Glory. Praise God He didn’t hide from our sin and darkness, but confronted it, slew it, and rose again to bring us Eternal Life. And if the most evil day of history has been redeemed, so can Oct 31, by sharing the message of Life in Christ.

Let us redeem this day for the glory of God.
