The Lord Knows

Years ago, a Christian singer was interviewed on TV. When asked how he entered the Christian music industry, he replied honestly… “I realized the world’s music was too concentrated, but saw there was room in Christian music, so I switched over.” He saw no problem with his pretense of faith.

The Lord issued a serious warning for those who fail to come into Christian ministry by way of the Cross and sincere commitment to God… “Not every one that says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven; but only he that does the will of My Father which is in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? And in your name cast out demons? And in your name done many wonderful works?’ And then I will profess to them, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from Me, you who work lawlessness.’” – (Matthew 7:21-23)

We can’t possibly know the hearts of all who claim to serve God. Some lives have an obvious disconnect between faith and lifestyle. Others are more secretive. Some are sincere but falsely accused or misrepresented. So the Bible says, “THE LORD KNOWS those who are His, and let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from unrighteousness” – (2 Timothy 2:19). This is a call to self-examination. When Jesus told His disciples at the Last Supper that one of them would betray Him, each of these virtuous men asked, “Is it I?” They looked within before looking across the table.

We’ll all give account of our own lives before Jesus. Every sincere follower of Christ can rest in His words of assurance… “My sheep hear My voice, and I KNOW THEM, and they follow Me: and I give to them eternal life, and they shall never perish…” (John 10:27).
