The Liar's Portion

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Jesus held nothing back when He spoke to the unbelievers. They accused Him of being an imposter, a fake, even demon possessed! But Jesus left no room for confusion - “You belong to your father, the Devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar, and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

Have you ever seen a time like this where lies and deception are everywhere? In 1981, the head of the CIA stated publicly that, “We will know our disinformation campaign is complete when everything the American public believes is false” (William Casey, former director of the CIA). Controlling the public through a chosen narrative, using lies, propaganda, and deception, has been in play a long time, but it is reaching its peak.

It’s been said that lies are more effective than bombs, and more destructive than an army, because you’ve captured the mind of people, which is held tight by emotion, anchoring it in a position of permanence.

Jesus, once again, left nothing to be negotiated with regarding this evil type of spiritual warfare… “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters, and ALL liars - their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

It’s so important for us to bathe our minds in the truth of God’s word each day. He will give us discernment to know what is truth and what is a lie from the evil one. There’s nothing quite as comforting as knowing the One that is, “The way, the truth, and the life.” May we draw nearer to Him.
