Naomi and her daughter in law, Ruth, left their homeland of Moab (modern day Jordan) to move to Bethlehem, the former home of Naomi. Famine and war had torn their lives apart and widowhood came to them both. Naomi had also lost two sons to death. What were they to do now? Where were they to go? Life was so uncertain. But God brought to Naomi’s mind that she had a relative in Israel that was a kindred redeemer. By law, he would take care of her. She invited her two daughters-in-law to go with her, Ruth agreed, but Orpah chose to stay. (Ruth 1-4)
It takes great courage to move forward in faith alone. Each step of the journey towards home was another whisper to God - “I’m trusting in You, Lord.” In God’s Divine plan, they found a home, a family, a nation, and Lord, to call their own. Oh, the blessings that came! What joy He had waiting for them! How true is the Scripture… “Those that put their hope in Me will not be disappointed.” (Isaiah 49:23)
What uncertainty are we facing? Like Naomi and Ruth, we know this world isn’t our home, and we’re walking in faith towards our Heavenly Home where Righteousness dwells. God will give us the courage to part ways with paths that no longer lead us closer to Him, and courage to embrace His will for our lives. A God-given strength will replace uncertainty as we lean fully on Him.
“When clouded vision gives way to fear
And God calls us to draw near,
We walk in faith and take His hand
For Home and Love dwell in this Land.”
Be encouraged, dear ones, we are almost Home.
