Jeremiah the prophet sat in a prison while the Babylonian army besieged the city. The atmosphere couldn’t have been worse. There was no food, the people inside the city were turning on each other violently, the king was a coward, and all his men were treasonous. An enemy within, an enemy without, and death looked certain.
It was in this context that an amazing invitation came from God to Jeremiah… “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” – (Jeremiah 33:3). Jeremiah did and the Lord proceeded to show him the future… “Behold, I will bring Jerusalem health and cure. I will heal them and will reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” Then the Lord fills the entire chapter with the description of “good things to come.”
And the same invitation is given to us in this time of darkness and the shadow of death… “If you then are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection (mind) on things above, not on things of this earth.” – (Colossians 3:1,2)
The place where Christ “sits” is the place of victory. It is the place of triumph after the Cross (Hebrews 1:2). It is the place of Authority, far above angels, demons, and the pompous rulers of men (Ephesians 1:21). It is the place where He waits to roar upon His enemies, making them His footstool (Matthew 22:44). And it is the place of our future awards ceremony (Revelation 4:2).
So pour yourself a good cup of coffee or tea, answer God’s call in thankful prayer, open your Bible, hear His majestic voice, and focus on Him. The best is yet to come.
