The most expensive diamond in the world is a rare blue diamond, weighing 45.52 carats, named “The Hope Diamond”. Passed down through generations, its origins remain a mystery. In 1958, the diamond was sent as a gift to the Smithsonian Institute in a brown paper package through first-class mail, as the safest, most secret, means of transport – a daring move that still shocks the world. Those who opened it almost failed to recognize it because of its ordinary wrappings.
When I read this story, I couldn’t help but think how the Heavenly Father sent His Son to this earth “in the likeness of men.” Jesus, from everlasting, the Treasure of Heaven, making those who receive Him rich, and giving us everlasting hope, coming in under our noses in ordinary wrappings. Some rejected Him because of it. They said, “Is this not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I came down from Heaven’?” Jesus told the people, “If you don’t believe My words, then believe My works: that you may know, and believe, that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” – (John 10:38).
The same mistake happens today by those who fail to look closely for themselves. Jesus is reduced to being a good teacher, a mere prophet, an angel, or one of many spirit beings. The Bible rebukes all these faulty conclusions.
C.S. Lewis, after his own examination of the claims and works of Christ, made this accurate summation… “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would NOT be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on the level of a man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” – (Mere Christianity).
The world is about to see the King return, no longer in humble wrappings of humanity, but in His rightful setting – in the clouds of Heaven, with power and great glory.
