What a joy it is to read the stories in the Bible and to realize afresh one overarching truth, that the goodness of God cannot be stopped by evil.
It has persevered through Israel’s homelessness as they wandered through the desert. He faithfully gave them a spiritual leader and guided them from a pillar of smoke and fire. He parted the sea so they could cross safely, then destroyed the enemy that pursued them. He gave them water from a rock in the desert, manna from heaven, and quail for meat. All of this goodness was given despite the grumbling of the Israelites... “Did You bring us into the desert to die?!”
With Joseph, He took what his brothers had meant for evil (selling him to a foreign caravan), and made him ruler over a wealthy nation, which prevented the death of his entire family (the future nation of Israel). What a blessed thought that the goodness of God supersedes even the most evil of plans.
In the book of Luke 4:29,30, Jesus is teaching at a synagogue in His hometown of Nazareth, when the people became enraged and took Him to the edge of a cliff where they intended to throw Him off, but He, in His divine power, walked through the crowd of them unscathed to safety, in order that His future death on the cross, for the sin of mankind, would not be pre-empted. The goodness of God defies even attempted assassination, in order that His perfect will may be fulfilled.
Dear friends, this current mayhem is no match for the goodness of God. Souls are being drawn to Him in great numbers, as this world reveals it has no hope to offer. Individually, we can rest in His never-ending promise to “be with us to the end of the age.” How blessed we are to be His! “The eternal God is our refuge and underneath are His everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27).
Praise His name!
