The Designer's Signature

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Patterns have been noted in everything from space, to the swirls seen in a sunflower’s seed growth, to a snail’s increasing swirls on its shell, to even the traced human hand, and how the fingertips represent a swirl-like pattern identical in its degree of curvature to a galaxy, and even the inside pattern of a cabbage. This scientific phenomenon is called the Fibonacci Sequence. It’s worth looking up.

My youngest son was in science class in grade 6 when this concept was taught. Being young and unconcerned what others might think, he blurted out, “Wow! God is so cool! It’s like the same Designer made it all!” The teacher, who is an atheist, replied that this concept has had her thinking he might be right.

“For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

Our God wants to be known. He has left His creation all over the world that speaks of His pristine order, beauty, artistry, and majesty. But it doesn’t end with just creation, His creation reaches to every single person - a Divine creation, knit together in their mother’s womb, intricate in detail, a one-of-a-kind wonder, that He wants and loves.

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them? Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:3-9)

May our hearts delight in the fact that our Creator never starts a work that He doesn’t finish. And He’s working now to bring things to completion. And when He’s done… He will leave His signature. He always does.
