“There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall arise out of Israel…” (Numbers 24:17).
How desperately our world needs the message of Christmas. It explodes with glorious triumph! Stars, angels, a King’s arrival, earth’s darkness shattered by Heaven’s Light, Living Hope! A Savior of the world who would bruise the serpent’s head. Satan tried to prevent Him from coming - Herod tried to prevent Him from living - Pilate tried to prevent Him from rising – no one shall prevent His returning!
Praise God the manger is empty, the Cross is empty, the tomb is empty – and His return is next on the Royal Agenda. This year, listen carefully to the song “Joy To The World.” It was never intended to be a Christmas song – or a song at all. It was written as a poem, based on Psalm 98, of the joy that will fill the earth at the Lord’s return to judge the world in righteousness.
A whole century later, a Boston music teacher named Lowell Mason discovered the poem and set it to music. Because it was released at Christmastime, it quickly became a holiday favorite and went on to become the most published Christmas carol in the world. Do you think the Lord Himself orchestrated that? It’s a delightful thought!
There are two thousand years between the prophesy of the Star and the Scepter, but the Day is near, the stage is set… “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: the Scepter of Thy Kingdom is a right Scepter” (Psalm 45:6).
Joy to the world! The Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King! …
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove,
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love!
Amen!
