When God called Abram out of his country, His promise was that His presence would be with him every step of the way. To Abram’s son Isaac, when strife began from other countries, God said, “Fear not, for I am with you.” To Isaac’s son Jacob, when he ran for his life from his own brother, the Lord met him on his first night away, saying “Behold, I am with you, and will keep you in all the places where you go, and will bring you again to this land; for I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken to you.”
When God called Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations, knowing he would face great opposition, the Lord gave him this promise… “They shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you, to deliver you.”
To the discouraged remnant that tried to rebuild the Temple as God asked, but kept being met with enemy after enemy, opposition upon opposition, the Lord sent His prophet Haggai with this comforting message… “I am with you, says the Lord… be strong, all you people of the land, for according to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so my Spirit remains among you, fear not… for I will shake all nations, and the Desire of Nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory.”
Jesus, the Desire of Nations, did come. He filled that second Temple with the glory of God. Then He went to the Cross, died for our sins, and arose in power with this message for us… “All power is given to Me in Heaven and on earth. Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world (age).” – (Matthew 28:19,20)
As we walk through this life, as we face opposition, as we build the Church, the body of Christ, the best words in the world are "I am with you." What assurance of victory! We WILL make it Home, we WILL be delivered, the Desire of Nations WILL return in power and great glory. Nothing is more certain than this.
Maranatha!
