The events of Christ’s birth brought together prophecies that were from the beginning of time. It didn’t matter that Rome was in power, or that the murderous Herod, was seated on the throne of Israel as king. Jesus was on time.
Caesar Augustus’ decree that all the world should be taxed, drove Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem as the prophets foretold (Micah 5:2), for they were “of the house and lineage of David.” That the inn was full of relatives drove them to the Tower of the Flock, fulfilling another prophetic announcement (Micah 4:8). All of it was done “that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets.”
That Herod tried to kill baby Jesus, drove them to Egypt, from which they returned about a year later, fulfilling another prophecy (Hosea 11:1). That Herod’s evil son reigned after his father died, drove Mary and Joseph back to Nazareth, fulfilling another Scripture, “He shall be called a Nazarene” (Isaiah 11:1).
Jesus was born on time, died on time, arose on time, and He will return on time. Do things look bleak in our day? It won’t stop one “jot or tittle” of the Word of God. The Son of God has come, died for us, put our sins away as far as the east is from the west, arisen in power, and is seated on Heaven’s throne with His Father. Our sins are gone; our hearts beat with a new nature of righteousness; His Spirit has sealed us, and the promise of Jesus to return and to take us to His side is about to be fulfilled.
Rejoice! There shall not fail one word of all His good promise.
