A strong storm had forced a small yacht off course. The instruments had been damaged… where were they??? They pulled out a map trying to get their bearings, and desperately hoped to find a nearby island to take refuge in, but there was nothing but water as far as the eye could see. They aimlessly floated at sea for days until a small island was seen in the distance. With great effort, they managed to get the boat to shore. Once on shore they soon realized they had no idea where they were, but there were trees and a bit of fresh water and a place to find protection from the storms. The next day, they lit a fire on the beach and added wet wood to it to create a smoke signal. The next day, they did it again… and finally a plane saw their signal. Upon rescue, they showed the pilot the map and stated they must be in the wrong area because this map shows no island in this area. Laughing, the pilot stated, “This isn’t an island it’s just a rock in the water! If it’s not a significant size it’s not documented.” The two rescued brothers talked among themselves that this “rock of no value” saved their lives. They remembered the teachings about Jesus as their Rock; and that Peter taught that, “Jesus was the cornerstone that you the builders rejected” (Acts 4:11-12). How can One so important, that offers eternal life, and protection from evil, be rejected as worthless? He was, and still is by our world. But to those of us that know Him, He is precious. As this world heads back into another planned set of storms, we must remember that there is a Refuge in Him… “When we get overwhelmed, lead us to the Rock that is higher than us” (Psalm 61:2). Stay close to Him and His Word. The lies, deceptions, and coercions are going to be worse than what we’ve already known. Praise God, that we have Safety and Stability in a world that is churning with evil. He is our Rock, and firmly on Him, we will stand against the enemy.
