Suddenly

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

In America, those claiming “insurrection” are the ones committing insurrection. In Canada, those plotting to enforce “hate laws,” to lock up for life any who oppose their corrupt agenda, are the ones committing hatred. And The voices crying “colonialism” as evil oppressors, are stealthily colonizing our lands and businesses. How like their father the devil.

But God sees it all. When David prayed, “Lord, hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of lawlessness… who use speech as swords and arrows… who shoot in secret at the upright… who encourage themselves in evil matters: who plot stealthily to lay snares, for they say, ‘Who shall see?’”  (Psalm 64).

Yet in a moment, suddenly, everything changes… “God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: and all that see shall flee. All people shall fear and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider His doing. The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in Him, and all the upright in heart shall glory.”

“Suddenly” is an exciting word. We’ve watched evil grow for such a long time because God gives the call to repent and time to do it. But… “He that being often reproved, yet who keeps hardening his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:1).  Jesus said the Lake of Fire was prepared for the devil and those on his team.

For those awaiting Christ’s first appearing, “suddenly” the angels came and announced His birth.  At Pentecost, “suddenly” the Spirit of Promise rushed in. And we know that any day, any time, any hour, any moment, He shall return, and suddenly…

Everything will change.
