Strong Confidence

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge” (Proverbs 14:26).

When ancient Assyria surrounded Israel, they mocked God and those who trusted in Him… “What Confidence is this in whom you trust?” But Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet prayed. Yes, Israel was massively outnumbered. Yes, Assyria had already conquered every country in their path. Yes, it looked like all was lost – but they knew the power and promises of Almighty God - and He responded…

“Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, by which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. Behold, I will send a blast upon him. and he shall fall by the sword… then the Angel of the LORD went forth and smote in the camp of the Assyrians 185,000. And when Israel arose in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses” (Isaiah 36,37).

Strong confidence leads to strong comfort and belongs only to those who have the right God. Jesus came to earth to save us by defeating our worst enemies - sin, death, and the devil - through His Cross and resurrection. He revealed Himself to the world as Almighty God. Those who place their faith in Him for salvation have no other enemies to fear, present or future - the Cross and resurrection prove it.

We’re watching the same satanic mindset of ancient Assyria rise again, but the Bible comforts us in advance that… “strong is the LORD God who judges her.” Jesus is still calling people to His open arms to find eternal Refuge in Him. Let’s encourage everyone we can, that the hour is late, the enemy is near, and there’s no time to walk. It’s time to run to Him.
