Storing Up For Eternity

With Fall approaching, the little squirrels are busy gathering all the food they can for the long winter. All their energies are focused on storing up for the future.

Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither most nor rust can corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21).

How is this possible? By doing everything in our day, even the small and seemingly mundane things, to honor Christ… “And whatsoever you do, do it wholeheartedly, as to the Lord, and not for men, knowing that of the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:17,23,24).

Winning souls for Christ is another way. The Apostle Paul called those he had led to Christ “my joy and crown.” He spent all his energies, even his life, to win as many people to Christ as possible… “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ as His appearing? (1 Thessalonians 2:19).

The hard-hearted and unrepentant are also storing up for themselves daily. The Bible says, “You are storing up for yourself wrath, in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to every person according to their deeds” (Romans 2:5,6).

Our days can be rich with purpose, and eternally productive, if we keep in mind this truth… “Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
